
WHO CAN APPLY ?
The James Preston Poindexter Scholarship is available to academically focused high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from one of the nation's Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU).

Candidates must be a graduating senior or graduate of Linden-McKinley STEM Academy, Mifflin High School, or those who live in the 43211, 43224, or 43219 Zip codes.
Candidates must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA).
Candidates must be a person of color.
Candidates must be enrolled or plan to enroll in an HBCU either full- or part-time.

AWARD RECIPIENTS
This scholarship is payable over four years at $5,000 per year or $5,000 per year for the remainder of their four-year program.

HBCUs, or Historically Black Colleges and Universities, are schools founded before 1964 to provide access to higher education for African Americans. Today, they continue to offer excellent academic programs while celebrating Black culture, history, and leadership.

The scholarship provides $20,000 total, distributed as $5,000 per year over four years, or $5,000 per year for however many years remain in a four-year undergraduate program.

Yes. You can apply while you are still waiting for admission decisions, but proof of acceptance to an HBCU will be required before funds are awarded.

No. Students enrolled full- or part-time at an HBCU are eligible.

The scholarship is intended only for students enrolled at HBCUs. If you transfer to a non-HBCU, funding will no longer continue.

Yes. While academic performance is important, financial need is also considered to ensure the scholarship supports those who might not otherwise afford higher education.
